The second was awarded last year to Stevie Wonder. Yes, Sir Paul is English. But the award is not restricted to U.S. citizens. Named in honor of brothers Ira and George Gershwin, the award is given to a composer or performer whose lifetime work exemplifies the standard of excellence associated with the Gershwins. The first one, in 2007, was won by Paul Simon.
'I know my six-year-old and the kids in her class are more likely to be excited by the Jonas guys.'
Sir Paul, who sang the Beatles track Michelle to the First Lady, revealed that he is “a very big fan” of President Obama.
'His wife [Michelle] is beautiful and smart. I like the way they raise their kids.
'He and I could talk like a couple of guys.'
