Kyra Sedgwick defied the odds and finally prevailed with her fifth consecutive lead actress bid for "The Closer." She was expected to lose this year to Julianna Margulies, star of the freshman hit "The Good Wife.Rather,it was Archie Panjabi who flew the flag for that show at the Emmy Awards, winning in the supporting actress category, something none of our pundits foresaw.
Kyra has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson in TNT’s The Closer.Kyra Sedgwick has beaten out five fellow nominees Julianna Margulies of The Good Wife, January Jones of Mad Men, Glenn Close of Damages, Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order Special Victims Unit, and Connie Britton of Friday Night Lights. And she emerged the winner.
There were a lot of tears. The episode I submitted had a lot of darkens and a lot of light but a lot of darkness and a lot of tears. I think the tears might have helped to be perfectly honest. She (the character) rides the edge of being very dangerous. Kyra told reporters that while she hadn’t won yet for The Closer, each nomination was a confidence booster for her.
