Despite his lack of political experience, Jean, 38, a Haitian-born US musician, was expected to do well in the Nov 28 vote because of his popularity, particularly among young people.
Haiti's provisional electoral council, the CEP, ruled on Friday night that the singer-songwriter did not meet the requirement that presidential candidates maintain five consecutive years of residency in Haiti prior to running.
Jean's candidacy was rejected by the country's elections board Friday night, presumably because he did not meet residency requirements.
