An Idiot Abroad I Find This Stuff Funny

Filled under:

The show was initially titled Karl Pilkington's Seven Wonders of the World, however a decision was made to change the name to the more provocative An Idiot Abroad without Pilkington's knowledge. The name change was actually revealed to Pilkington halfway through the show in order to record his reaction. Pilkington himself has said in interviews that he thinks the name change will harm the show and that people will not want to watch a program about an idiot In a poll on Pilkipedia 61% of fans reported to be happy with the name change.

Karl Pilkington isn't keen on travelling. Given the choice, he'll go on holiday to Devon or Wales or, at a push, eat English food on a package holiday in Majorca. Which isn't exactly Michael Palin, is it? So what happened when he was convinced by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant to go on an epic adventure to see the Seven Wonders of the World Travel broadens the mind, right? You'd think so...Find out in Karl Pilkington's hilarious travel diaries.

Locals remove climbing pitons or leave them half in the rockface, nice. Bear that in mind before gleefully going for that vertical burn The Gorge is long & high. Some wild dogs, a couple of Camels, scrub bushes & a few sheep. Other than that a desolate wilderness filled with the winds. The Berber ladies of this area go in for facial tattoos. Vertical stripe or three from lower lip down the chin, a dot on each cheek & a small cross between the eyebrows seems average.

Fez El Bali, the oldest and largest medieval city in the world. The major thoroughfares are two camels wide. the lesser routes are far less substantial. So grab a good map, stay visible, guard pockets, be cool, wary, polite yet firm and all will be well. Take delight not rage in the scams & meld into history. Take an electric monk with you, the one the has the "I believe" settings to the maximum, as so many people want you to.

Maybe i find this stuff funny because i have listened to all the XFM shows that Ricky, Stephen and Karl did. I can't say that you will find it hilarious if you haven't been exposed to all of that. But I think this show looks great, mainly because Karl is such an interesting human being. He is truly ignorant about the world, but not on purpose. He has a completely different way of looking at things, which to me is a crack up.If you enjoyed the Ricky Gervais Show on HBO, then odds are you will love this too.
