Once again, rumors of a smaller iPad with a 7-inch screen are surfacing. iLounge's source claims the smaller iPad is "substantially finished and will be ready for announcement either later this year or early in 2011. Apple has been prototyping devices with screens of this size for a long time quite possibly predating the original iPhone." We always liked the idea of a smaller, cheaper iPad that's more pocket friendly, so we hope this is true. But we're wondering if Apple will do anything this year that might slacken the demand on the current iPad, which continues to sell very well.
Some of you will undoubtedly say, "Wow, David, the iPhone 4 has barely been released and you're already talking about No. 5." My answer: Why not? For a guy like me, who already owns an iPhone 3GS and won't be buying the iPhone 4 (as great as it may be, it's missing some features I want), I've already moved on and I'm looking ahead. The end result of my iPhone 5 fantasies is a list of 20 items ordered from least to most important in a reverse countdown. I've also included what we think are the odds of Apple actually implementing each request.

Another rumor, which sounds far more plausible, is that Apple is looking for a cheaper way to make the bumpers that it is currently giving out for free. Current speculation is to make them out of silicone and without the hard plastic of the present design.New iPods are also expected sooner rather than later to hit the back-to-school buying season. iPods are becoming a smaller part of Apple's business, but we'd be surprised if we didn't see new iPod Nano, Touch and Shuffle. Interestingly, the Shuffle could be getting a small 1.7-inch touchscreen.
