"These may not be the appropriate circumstances to effectively make Paul a prisoner of Australia," said his lawyer Andrew Robinson. "The amount is less than that but it's an amount that's very significant and is more than Paul has the ability to meet."The order was "absolutely devastating" for his family and the star - who denies any wrongdoing and has never been charged with tax evasion - is attempting to have the order revoked. The diminutive New York-born star got his Oz film career rolling as road warrior Mad Max and has gone on to land the English a bloody nose in Braveheart, play the maverick cop in Lethal Weapon and take on alien life forms in Signs. He's recently proved himself no slouch as a director, with box office success with The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto.

As well as the satisfying stand-alones revolving around man-eating squids, dream siphoning and that musical episode, it delved deeper into the show’s engrossing mythology. It all paid off with a memorable finale: Olivia (Anna Torv) and Walter (John Noble) travelled to the alternate universe to rescue Peter (Joshua Jackson); Peter was reunited with his long-lost father, only to discover that he was the pawn in a deadly plan; Walter confronted Leonard Nimoy’s William Bell in a poignant showdown; and Olivia met her doppelganger. Assisting the team is Special Agent Kensi Blye, the exceptionally bright daughter of a slain Marine who lives for the adrenalin rush that comes with undercover work; Operational Psychologist Nate Getz, adept at getting into anybody's head, profiling the target and monitoring agents' states of mind before, during and after missions; Special Agent Dominic Vail, the most recent addition to the team, is highly qualified but lacking in practical experience and Henrietta “Hetty” Lange who oversees the 'backroom' support staff tasked with providing everything from micro-surveillance cameras to cars for the team.

It's surprising that Shia didn't get called into Mr Spielberg's office for a stern talking to following his negative comments regarding the quality of Crystal Skull earlier this year. This powerhouse procedural is rooted in the high stakes world of the Office of Special Projects (OSP). By assuming fake identities and utilising the type of advanced technology that would make James Bond blush, its team of highly- trained agents must apprehend dangerous criminals and diffuse threats to the nation's security. It's a job that promises peril.

The Jeffersonian gang are set to finally close the case on their greatest enemy, as Deirdre Lovejoy (The Wire) makes another scenestealing appearance as the sadistic killer Heathe‘Gravedigger’ Taffet. The Gravedigger –who previously tried to kill Brennan, Booth and Hodges by burying them alive –was convicted of her crimes in season five, but she still has one last card to play. Series creator Hart Hanson has revealed that the episode featuring Taffet will introduce “someone much worse”, who is set to plague the team all season.
