US warns India about possible WikiLeaks release

NEW YORK: The US has warned India and other key governments across the world about a new potentially embarrassing release of classified documents by the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks which may harm the American interests and create tension in its ties with its "friends".

"We have reached out to India to warn them about a possible release of documents," state department spokesman P J Crowley said.

"We do not know precisely what WikiLeaks has or what it plans to do. We have made our position clear. These documents should not be released," Crowley said, ahead of the expected release by the website of millions of sensitive diplomatic cables.

It is not known yet what is contained in these documents about India-related issues.

The WikiLeaks has said there would be "seven times" as many secret documents as the 400,000 Iraq war logs it published last month.

On his Twitter account, Crowley said the State Department officials have also contacted leaders in Germany, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Britain, France and Afghanistan.

Secretary of state Hillary Clinton too reached out to Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi, as the WikiLeaks, the whistle-blower website, is expected to release some three million classified US cables involving some of its key allies including Australia, Britain, Israel, Russia, Turkey and India.

Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, urged WikiLeaks to stop "dangerous" leaks.

"I would hope that those who are responsible for this would, at some point in time, think about the responsibility that they have for lives that they're exposing... and stop leaking this information," Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told CNN.

"It continues to be extremely dangerous," he said. "We are very mindful of the announcement that WikiLeaks made earlier this week, that there is a release of documents pending at some point in the future."

KARACHI: A cargo plane has been reportedly crashed near Dalmia area in Gulistan-e-Johar locality, Geo News reported late Saturday.

According to sources, police, rescue workers, law enforcing agencies trying to reach the crash site.

According to reports, it was a Russian made plane. Dalmia is a thickly populated area near Gulistan-e-Johar.

Earlier, people claimed hearing a powerful explosion, which appeared a plane crash.

Hundreds of people have arrived on the spot while the crash site is on fire and thick smoke emitting from the scene, eyewitnesses said.

Another eyewitness Adnan, said the right engine of the plane, appeared to be PIA’s plane, whose right engine caught fire first then while preparing to take turn, it crashed into ground.

Reports said there were 8 passengers on board which was bound to Khartoom, the capital of Sudan.

On Friday, the Shiv Sena launched a fresh attack against Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan.

In the party’s mouthpiece Saamna, SRK has been severely criticized for agreeing to perform at a function for a Pakistani TV channel on the second anniversary of the 26/11 terror strike in Mumbai.

But SRK’s office in Mumbai claims that the superstar hasn’t taken on any such assignment and that he is presently shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s film Don 2 in Berlin, Germany.

However, the scathing editorial in Saamna said that SRK lived in India, worked in Mumbai, constructed “a palace” (Mannat Bungalow in Bandra) in Mumbai but agreed to do a song-and-dance for a Pakistani TV channel in London, ostensibly to help the victims of the recent floods there.

Earlier this year too, the Shiv Sena had targeted SRK for his comment favouring the inclusion of Pak cricketers in IPL tournament. The party had tried to forcibly halt the release of SRK’s film My Name Is Khan.

Box office Report: Break Ke Baad has a dull start Watch online Review

Despite it being a romantic comedy with all necessary ingredients of a masala caper, this Friday’s release Break Ke Baad has made a dull start at box office.

To start with, BKB was not promoted extensively and the buzz around the Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan chemistry was clearly missing. On Friday the film opened to an all India response of around 35 to 40 percent. Only in select multiplexes was the occupancy close to 50 percent. The audience reaction to the film is mixed and so are the reviews by critics, with some panning it while others praising it.

The other release of the week, Allah Ke Banday had a poor start. The film witnessed a nationwide response of 10 to 15 percent. Even positive reviews by some critics did not ensure greater footfalls by Friday evening.

Likewise, the last week’s release Guzaarish has fared poorly at box office. The film’s first week business is around Rs. 22 crore, which makes it a flop.

On the other hand, Golmaal 3, which released on Diwali is still doing quite well. It has so far done the business of more than Rs 100 crore and still counting.
