Revered actor Shammi Kapoor dies

Actor Shammi Kapoor died this morning (August 14) at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. The veteran actor was 79 years old.

Shammi Kapoor was known for his style and dance steps and was the box office favourite in the 50-60s with his flamboyant style and unmatched persona showcased in movies like Junglee, Kashmir Ki Kali, An Evening In Paris, Bramachari, Teesri Manzil, Ujjala, Chinatown and Andaz. In all, Shammi ji acted in over 100 movies.

Shammi is the elder brother of actor Shashi Kapoor and younger brother of legendary showman Raj Kapoor. Till his death Shammi Kapoor remained active on many fronts and was one of the most revered stars of his generation. He was due to shoot a sequence with grand-nephew Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar

Shammi Kapoor had suffered kidney failure and was in and out of hospital over the past few months. He was a regular visitor at the Breach Candy hospital for his dialysis. The actor had been in serious condition in the ICU on ventilator support for the past two days and died due to renal failure early this morning.

The funeral for the Bollywood legend will be held tomorrow (August 15) at 11 am at the Ban Ganga crematorium, Mumbai.
