Land speed record bid could make space flight safer

The team that hopes to break the world land speed record in a rocket-assisted jet car could create an important spin-off for the nascent space tourism market: a safer rocket engine.

So says Daniel Jubb, who is the founder of military rocket motor company Falcon Project Limited (FPL), based in Mojave, California, and chief rocket engineer for the Bloodhound SuperSonic Car, which aims to reach a speed of 1600 kilometres per hour (1000 miles per hour) on the salt flats in Hakskeen Pan, South Africa, sometime in 2013. The current record is 1227 km/h, and was set in 1997 by the Bloodhound team's driver Andy Green, in a car called Thrust SSC.

Apple May Adopt ARM Processor For MacBook Instead of Intel

Apple is reportedly planning to switch to ARM processors from Intel’s for its Mac Book laptop devices.

According to a report on Semi Accurate, the iOS maker is planning to ditch Intel for ARM for its laptops. Apple already uses ARM processors for its iPhone and iPad devices.

The rumour comes as Intel announced a major breakthrough in 22nm mobile processors, a technology that would feature in its Ivy Bridge line of processor to be released by the end of this year. Analysts believe that Intel could be serious damage to ARM’s Smartphone and tablet market.

Apple is mulling shifting to ARM processors not only for laptops but for its desktop devices as well. Processor makers like Nvidia have already announced that they will soon release processors based on ARM technologies.

United Kingdom - A Developer has created an astonishing invention that can reduce the education gap between wealthy and poorer children, by developing a £15 Computer !

The co-developer of the Elite space trading computer game, David Braben has developed a tiny computer based around a USB stick called the Raspberry Pi. The little device will plug into a HDMI TV for video output and will allow a keyboard to be plugged in via the USB port.

There was no word about using a mouse in addition to a keyboard. It appears that there is only one USB port, which means users will not be able to plug in multiple peripherals, but that might change for the finished product.

Critics of the idea might highlight the fact that the TV required to use the device will be significantly more expensive, even at the lower end of the market, but this allows a family to invest in a TV that doubles as a computer monitor. The computer can also be plugged into a touchscreen or low-cost tablet.

First look Pics - Imran Khan bruised and battered in 'Delhi Belly'

The first look of the Imran Khan-starrer Delhi Belly is a far cry from those of other films we get to see often. Rather than posing pretty in glad rags, Imran is bruised and bashed up, sulking and glowering at the camera.

The film stars Imran Khan along with comedian Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor. Poorna Jagannath and Shenaz Treasurywala are the actresses.

Abhinay Deo, the film’s director describes Delhi Belly as an “ensemble film” where instead of one character of the hero (Imran Khan) all the characters are equally important and have substantial footage.

Imran, we hear, plays a spoilt Delhiite. He drinks, swears, cheats on his girlfriend, is short tempered, and -- if anything was left -- is hooked to porn films.

The film is written by Akshat Verma and has been produced by Aamir Khan and Ronnie Screwala. It’s slated to release on July 1.

The Smallest video camera In the World developed

Medigus has developed the world’s smallest video camera at just 0.039-inches (0.99 mm) in diameter. The company’s second-gen model (a 1.2 mm / 0.047-inch diameter camera was unveiled in 2009) has a dedicated 0.66x0.66 mm CMOS sensor from TowerJazz that captures images at 45K resolution (approximately 220 x 220 pixels) and no, it’s not destined for use in tiny mobile phones or covert surveillance devices, instead the camera is designed for medical endoscopic procedures in hard to reach regions of the human anatomy.

The miniature cameras are made with bio-compatible compnents and are suitable for diagnostic and surgical procedures. Potential applications include cardiology, bronchoscopy, gastroenterology, gynecology, and orthopedic and robotic surgery.

“Medical procedures that have not been possible until now become possible with the world’s smallest camera,” said Dr. Elazar Sonnenschein, CEO for Medigus Ltd.

The camera will be integrated into Medigus’ own disposable endoscopic devices as well as sold to third-party manufacturers. Medigus says it will begin supplying camera samples to US and Japanese manufacturers in coming weeks for use in endoscopic and surgical devices in such fields as cardiology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, and gynecology. Cost has yet to be disclosed, but Medigus says pricing should be “sufficiently low” for use in disposable devices. 

PlayStation hack Sony Apologises for attack on Network

Sony chief Sir Howard Stringer has spoken about the security breach of the PlayStation Network for the first time, apologising to the users affected and unveiling a $1m identity theft insurance policy to protect each user in the future.

Stringer has remained tight-lipped about the two attacks on the PSN carried out last month which saw personal information of as many as 100m gamers stolen.

However, Stringer has been forced to take action to try and control the crisis as Sony's share price fell by as much as 4% in trading on Thursday as investors worried about the ultimate cost of the attacks.

In a blog post, Stringer said that there is "no confirmed evidence any credit card or personal information has been misused, and we continue to monitor the situation closely".

Stringer announced plans to introduce more stringent security measures to "protect your information better than ever" and unveiled a $1m identity theft insurance policy per user to "cover identity restoration costs, legal defense expenses, and lost wages that occur within 12 months after the stolen identity event" – but only for US gamers.

Bollywood give second chance to Shiney Ahuja

Should the rape taint mark the end of Shiney Ahuja’s acting career? Or should Bollywood give him the benefit of the doubt and take him back into the fold?

As per law, a man is innocent until proven guilty. Though Shiney was pronounced “guilty” in March this year by a Mumbai court in the rape case of his maid (dating back to 2009) and sentenced to seven years of imprisonment, the actor is using all the legal options available to him by approaching the High Court.

RIM Canadian Mobile - Bing as its search engine

CANADIAN PHONE MAKER Research in Motion (RIM) will use Microsoft's Bing search engine as the default on its mobile devices.

The firm has had quite a busy few days. It has announced two new Bold handsets, a video chat application for its Playbook tablet and a Facebook application, and now it has chosen to top off its celebrations by announcing even closer ties to Microsoft.

The firm apparently sees this cosy relationship as a way to beat off competition from Apple and Google's Android, and welcomed shy and retiring Steve Ballmer to one of its stages to make the announcement.
On he bounded, according to Reuters, and announced that Bing will "deeply integrated at the Blackberry operating system level".

The news was confirmed on a blog post by Bing director Matt Dahlin. "Central to this collaboration, Blackberry devices will use Bing as the preferred search provider in the browser, and Bing will be the default search and map application for new devices presented to mobile operators, both in the United States and internationally", he said.

"Also, effective today Bing will be the preferred search and maps applications with regular, featured placement and promotion in the BlackBerry App World carousel."

How users will react to this is as yet unknown. RIM already had suitable differentiation with its Blackberry devices, including the simple fact that they are made by neither Apple nor Microsoft.

They include a different name than previously rumored, a logo, and the ability to deliver software directly to a person's desktop, according to Windows enthusiast site WinRumors and other sources.

Its release is tied to that of Windows 8, the next version of the Windows operating system.
The store will also allegedly kick off with a new logo that, like much of Windows 8, borrows some of its look and feel from Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 Metro UI.

The new store will most likely be based on HTML5 and will send apps to PCs from Microsoft's cloud-based Azure service, according to Windows enthusiast site MSWin (Google Translate version), which apparently peeked under the hood of the recent Windows 8 Milestone 3 Build. The site also found subtle entries pointing to a Windows Store deep within the bowels of the Windows Registry.

Salman Khan isn’t really fond of kissing or being kissed by pretty young things. But this time it was little girls, all preteens, who showered kisses on the actor to set a new Guinness record.

Salman made a special appearance on the show Guinness World Records - Ab India Todega, which is hosted by his very good friend Preity Zinta. On the show Salman attempted to break the Guinness Record of being kissed on the hand for maximum times in a minute. The record was previously held by a Japanese man for 87 kisses.

Twenty-five little girls took turns to kiss Salman’s hand and broke the record by a substantial margin. Salman was kissed 108 times in a minute by the girls, setting a new Guinness record.

Box office: Fast Five does High hit on The Records

"Fast Five" ran over the competition at the box office this past weekend, shifting movie ticket sales into high gear for the first time this year.

The first big-budget studio tent-pole film of the summer season grossed $83.6 million, according to an estimate from distributor Universal Pictures. That marks the biggest opening of the year, speeding past the $39.2-million debut of 20th Century Fox's "Rio" last month.

"Fast Five," the fifth installment of the popular street-racing franchise, lapped the other two new films that debuted in wide release. Not many moviegoers showed up to Disney's "Prom," which collected a weak $5 million. The animated 3-D sequel "Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil" also fared poorly, opening to $4.1 million — far less than what 2005's "Hoodwinked" took in on its first weekend.

Heading into the weekend, the major question in the movie industry was whether "Fast Five" would be able to buck this year's box-office slump; as of last week, ticket sales in 2011 were down 17% compared to last year. Even though pre-release audience surveys had indicated that the film could gross over $75 million on its first weekend, Universal cautiously estimated a $60-million opening. Now the movie is helping to push the box office out of the doldrums. Ticket sales overall this weekend were up 52% compared to the same weekend last year, and year to date, sales are now off 14% compared to 2010.

Anurag Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin Marriage Pictures and Videos

Finally, Anurag Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin have solemnized their long relationship with a wedding. They are now husband and wife.

The wedding took place on Saturday in Kalhatty on the outskirts of Ooty. It was a very private affair attended only by close relatives and friends of the couple. Anurag’s brother Abhinav Kashyap (director of Dabangg) was there. Kalki’s mother, brother and sister-in-law were there too.

From what we hear, it was a traditional south Indian wedding done with proper religious rituals. Anurag, hardly known to go by the rulebook, followed all the rituals and recited the mantras and shlokas.

Kalki wore a white sari with zari work; Anurag was dressed in white kurta and dhoti. This is Anurag’s second marriage after divorce from his first wife Aarti. He also has a daughter from his first marriage.
