She looks cute, and radiant is her smile. Kajal Aggarwal, who has given several hits down south, entered Bollywood with this week’s sensational release Singham opposite the dashing Ajay Devgan.

Born in Mumbai to a Marwari family, Kajal is not new to Bollywood. Kajal made her acting debut in the Hindi film Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na in the year 2004. In the movie she played Aishwarya Rai’s friend and shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi. Who’s hotter - Vidya Balan or Silk Smitha?

Vidya Balan has never been a sexy siren. Despite locking lips with her male co-stars and even mouthing dialogues seasoned with choicest of expletives, Vidya has remained the typical demure, sari-clad lady one would take home to meet their mom. Not for her the trappings of a sex bomb.

But Vidya has defied the stereotypes and shocked her fans by taking up the role of Silk Smitha in director Milan Luthria’s film Dirty Picture.

For the uninitiated, Silk Smitha was the undisputed siren of the south film industry in the 80s and 90s, popular for her dare-to-bare acts in a number of films. Her plump, curvy body which she revealed without inhibitions was her drawcard.

Now, Dirty Picture, based on the tragic life of Silk Smitha, pitches Vidya Balan as the seductress, dressed in skimpy blouses and thigh-baring ghagras. The first glimpse of Vidya’s makeover as Silk Smitha came out recently, and has been met with mixed reactions from film buffs.

Some feel Vidya isn’t plump and curvy enough to play Silk Smitha, while the others have wholeheartedly approved of Vidya as the siren.

Vidya Balan talks about her secret love affair

t’s a love affair Vidya Balan can’t keep secret anymore. And it’s not with a man but with a city.

Vidya Balan admits she’s obsessed with Kolkata, a city that’s been her muse for many performances. A decade ago, she made her acting debut with Goutam Halder’s Bhalo Theko and since then, has acted in Parineeta (2005) and Kahani, both set in Bengal.

The Kerala-born actor says: “I don’t know. I have stopped trying to understand why. I have just accepted that there is a relation. My mom keeps saying that there might be a relation from a past life because I do not know anyone with so much of love for Bengal. Even the man in my life will have to deal with another love affair, and that is Kolkata.”

She adds that she’s even learnt Bengali tunes saying, “I know how to sing some songs and rhymes. I keep on learning,” she said, adding that her unflinching love for Kolkata is so self-evident that people often mistake her to being a Bengali. “The first time I went to Kolkata, I felt a sense of familiarity,” says Vidya, who will be seen playing a siren in Dirty Picture.

Katrina Kaif does a hot item for Salman Khan

Salman Khan’s upcoming film Bodyguard just got hotter. The movie will open with a sizzling item song from none other than Katrina Kaif.
Salman Khan is taking personal interest in making sure that brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri’s production turns out to be a crowd puller at theatres. Buzz is that he has asked Katrina Kaif to do an item song for the opening credits of Bodyguard that stars Kareena Kapoor opposite Salman.

The item will be on the lines of the opening credits of several Bond movies, and it will be a challenge for Katrina to make the item look slick, sexy and stylish. In fact, Salman has told Katrina to outdo her Sheila shtick with the Bodyguard item.

The song will be composed by Himesh Reshammiya and choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, both of who owe a lot to Salman for their fame and success. Himesh doesn’t compose for films that he doesn’t act in, but he has made an exception for Salman and is coming up with a perky item song, we hear.

However, Katrina’s item might turn out to be a thorn in the side of Kareena Kapoor who certainly wouldn’t want to be outshined by Katrina in the film that has Bebo as the solo heroine, with the other girl Hazel Keech mostly being a supporting actor.

Whatever the case, we’re sure the fans would throng to the theatres to watch Katrina’s Bond-inspired item song.

Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt to host ‘Bigg Boss Season 5’ together

We have some good news for Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt fans! After reports suggesting that Sanjay Dutt will host Bigg Boss Season 5 because of Salman Khan’s unavailability due to a packed schedule, it has now been confirmed that both of them will host the show together.

Ashvini Yardi, head of programming at Colors, said: “With both Salman and Sanjay on board, we’re sure that this season will touch unprecedented heights.”

Bigg Boss has seen Arshad Warsi, Shilpa Shetty and Amitabh Bachchan as its host in the past, but it is only Salman who will be seen as the host for the second time!

Salman Khan looks pretty excited to host the show again and is quoted as saying: “I enjoyed working on the last season and received much positive response from fans. I’m glad to be back for another season ... and with Sanjay Dutt ... it can only mean one thing -- more excitement.”

Ajay Devgan has iterated what many of the staunch fans of Salman Khan already hold: that Salman has the best body in the industry.

Ajay Devgn has himself joined the Bollywood brawn brigade by developing a muscular body for his upcoming film Singham. The beefed up look so impressed Salman Khan that the superstar posted a compliment on his Twitter page: “Oye teri !!! Baap re baap. Superb ajay's body is looking . Too good.”

However, the 42-year-old Devgn thinks that it is Salman who possesses the best body in the industry.

‘Zindagi Mile Na Dobara’ stars perform LIVE for Delhites

Bollywood actors Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol promoted their upcoming flick ‘Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara’ in Gurgaon on Sunday. The stars along with director Zoya Akhtar were in Delhi and performed at a LIVE concert powered by Mountain Dew at Ambience mall in Gurgaon.
Speaking on the occasion, Farhan Akhtar, actor and the film’s producer (Excel Entertainment) said, “Very rarely you find a perfect fit between what a film is trying to say and the brand associated. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’s collaboration with Mountain Dew is one such fine example. Darr Ke Aage Jeet Hai is a philosophy that the film’s characters believe in and we are delighted to be associated with the brand as facing our fears is an integral part of the journey”.

Aishwarya Rai postpones her award ceremony to mourn for Mumbai blasts

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai was present along with her husband Abhishek Bachchan at the ceremony on Wednesday to receive an honor from the French government. However, midway through the ceremony came the heart breaking news of Mumbai blasts that left at least 21 people dead and over 100 injured. As a true Indian, Aishwarya requested the officials to postpone the ceremony for the moment and she also maintained a minute’s silence to mourn the deaths.
Later she spoke to the reporters present at the event and said, “Thank you all for being here. The current situation has really disturbed and shocked all of us. I thank the French embassy for being supportive and considering the sensitivity of the situation. They have been kind to consider me and my family’s request to postpone the celebration till another time. We as Indians can’t go ahead and celebrate in such a situation.”
“The terrible blasts have shook us, but we shall stand strong. They (terrorists) should get it straight that we won’t let them succeed. You cannot break us, we all believe in deep strong Indian spirit. You will not get the better of us. God bless us and Jai Hind,” she added.
French Ambassdor Jerome Bonnafont said: “The terrible series of blast has shocked all of us. It seems the time is not right. I pay my condolence and want the Indian people to know that the government of France is with them.”

Mallika Sherawat accepts Kamaal R Khan’s challenge

Kamaal R Khan made news for his arrogance and rude behavior as the Big Boss house inmate. Now, the self proclaimed famous and talented actor and filmmaker has made a huge offer to our desi bombshell Mallika Sherawat. Apparently, KRK plans to make a film and wants Mallika to play the lead for which he has offered a lucrative 2 crores as the remuneration. He wants John Abraham as the male lead and the female lead is the role of a girl who flirts with many men at the same time.
“If you will do my film I shall pay you 2 cr and if the film will not be super hit then I shall pay you 5 cr as fine,” KRK sent the tweet to Mallika adding, “I challenge you that one day you will accept my offer.”

Aishwarya becomes the 1st Asian actress to receive 2nd highest French civilian award

It seems that mews columns can just get enough of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She was everywhere with the news of her pregnancy and then due to her controversy related to Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Heroine.
Once again, she comes to limelight because of the honor she will receives with the prestigious Officer Dan Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres by the French Government in New Delhi tomorrow. This is the second highest civilian award in France and is conferred on people who have achieved immense recognition, because of their contribution in the fields of arts, culture or literature. Ash is the first Asian actress and the youngest Indian to win the honour. Other receivers of this award include Robert Redford, George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Shah Rukh Khan.
The French daily ‘Le Figaro’ declared this news stating, “She (Ash) is one of the most famous Indian actors in this country and outside the borders of India. Aishwarya will be made Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, Wednesday, July 13, by the Ambassador of France in New Delhi, Jerome Bonnafont. According to a statement from the embassy, the ceremony will be attended by the family of the young woman in full.”

Shahid and Sonam’s comfy chemistry!

At the unveiling of the first theatrical trailer of their movie Mausam on Monday, what caught our attention was the comfy chemistry between Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor.

The two Kapoors seemed thick as thieves as they addressed the mediapersons at PVR Juhu. At the event Sonam was dressed in an Emanuel Ungaro dress and sported a headband that looked like a shimmering tiara. Shahid was dressed casually and looked quite handsome.

'Murder 2' rocks the box office

The Bhatts’ latest presentation Murder 2 is rocking the box office despite mixed reviews and the repetitive slag of being plagiarized.

The movie raked in a very good collection in its opening weekend. It took off on Friday on a positive note with a collection of a little over Rs 7 crores. The Saturday was equally good though there was a slight dip to Rs 6.5 crores. On Sunday the figure notched up to Rs. 8.75 crores. Summing it up, the weekend collection of the film is more than Rs 22 crores, which is second best to Salman Khan’s film Ready.

Converts garbage into gas with Plasma Power technology

As recently as January we reported on plasma vaporisation technology capable of turning organic waste material into hydrogen and carbon monoxide, a mixture called synthesis gas, or syn-gas, that can be used as a fuel or as a valuable feedstock in further chemical processes. The company in question then was U.S. based Integrated Environmental Technologies.

Engineers have developed an efficient torch for blasting garbage with a stream of
superheated gas, known as plasma. When trash is dropped into a chamber and heated
to 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit, its organic components, food, fluids, paper—vaporize into a hot, pressurized gas, which turns a turbine to generate electricity. Steam, a by-product, can generate more. Inorganic refuse such as metals condense at the bottom and can be used in roadbeds and heavy construction.

The ideal situation for technology like this is to replace existing land fill sites or garbage incinerators, (used extensively in the U.K.), which are both polluting. Shahrukh Khan’s Ra.One made Rs.350 million before release

Shahrukh Khan’s superhero movie Ra.One has reportedly already made Rs.500 million from TV and music rights.

Ra.1 is produced by Gauri and Shahrukh Khan, and features SRK in a superhero avatar G.One. The hotly anticipated sci-fi flick is expected to be the biggest release at Diwali this year.

Per reports Star TV has agreed to part with Rs.350 million for the satellite TV rights of the film; Salman Khan’s Bodyguard, Ajay Devgn’s Singam and Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar are the other films that Star TV recently acquired the rights for.

T-Series has reportedly paid Rs.150 million for the exclusive music rights of the film, and with the Senegalese American R&B singer Akon signing the headlining item number Wanna be my chammak challo, the movie’s soundtrack seems a certain bet for T-Series. A version of the song was leaked online and became an instant hit; the Ra.One team claims that the final version is much better.

Shahrukh Khan is also adding another first for Ra.One as there will be an action-packed game based on the movie for the Playstation. The storyline for the game has been written by Shahrukh himself and he is also providing voice-overs for the title. SRK fans will be able to play the game as G.One or Ra.One.

The currentblips movie review of Murder 2. “Just cut off the darned root of the problem.” Well, that seems to be the mantra of the psychopathic, misogynist, serial killer in Murder 2. He’s sure had a troubled past. When the sexual attraction towards women had the better of him, he cut off the damned root of it (if you know what I mean). But when the attraction didn’t cease, he turned the blade towards women and began abducting them and slicing them off in little pieces and packing them in big poly bags (not banned in Goa yet?) and dumping them in a deep dark well in the backyard of the creepy mansion he lives and kills in.

Meet the consummate nutcase Dheeraj (Prashant Narayanan) who’s plain lame, and anything but his name. And meet the ex copper Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) who works with Goan pimps and druglords and sleeps around with a PYT named Priya (Jacqueline Fernandez). She loves him, but he reciprocates her affection by doing the obvious in the bed and later offering her a wad of money. “Rakh le,” he says with a deadpan expression.

But Murder 2 is more about Reshma (Sulagna Panigrahi), a young girl whom Arjun uses as a bait to trap the man behind the mysterious disappearances of prostitutes in Goa, not knowing that he was feeding the rookie hookie to a raving lunatic.

Far from being a crank with an ingenious methodology, the serial killer in Murder 2 is impulsive and even downright dumb, and his murders are artless despite him being a sculptor. So the hammer and chisel are mere props while his weapon of choice is something that will put a lot of kirtan-loving ladies at unease.

Box office report Murder 2 making good impression

Despite getting mixed reviews from the critics, the Bhatts’ new movie Murder 2 opened well at box office on Friday and is expected to have a good weekend. In comparison, Chillar Party failed to pull in the crowds.

Emraan Hashmi’s magic seems to be working again. His steamy chemistry with Jacqueline Fernandez appears to have got a thumbs up from the viewers who have been leaving quite a seat bums in theatres. Murder 2, directed by Mohit Suri, opened to a heartening 70 percent response at theatres on Friday. The footfalls are likely to go up on Saturday and Sunday, regardless of the critics who have panned the film as a shameless copy of the Korean film, ‘The Chaser’.

Interestingly, Murder 2 is still getting tough competition from Delhi Belly, released last Friday. The film has rounded off its first week with a collection of Rs. 36.50 crore nett, and there is still no let up in the audience response as the film enters its second week at box office.

In comparison, Amitabh Bachchan’s Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap pales with a meagre collection of a little less than Rs. 10 crores. Below Average.

This week’s other release Chillar Party, the first film of Salman Khan as a producer, fared disappointingly at box office despite getting nods from critics. The film saw a meagre 15 to 20 percent response at theatres.

The coming Friday would see the release of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The film is riding on a lot of hype and expected to take a good start.

The unceremonious exit of a pregnant Aishwarya Rai from director Madhur Bhandarkar’s “most ambitious project” Heroine has been a cause of strain between the actress and the director.

Bhandarkar recently broke his silence with a tirade in which he put the blame on Aishwarya Rai for hiding her pregnancy from him. In response, Amitabh Bachchan had jumped to Aishwarya’s defence and claimed that actors have the right to get married and have children whenever they wish.

Now Amitabh Bachchan claims that Aishwarya and Madhur have sorted out their issues.

While promoting his film Bbuddah - Hoga Terra Baap when Amitabh Bachchan was asked to comment on the strained equation between Bhadarkar and Ash, he said: “When I was asked (previously) what I have to say, I had said that they (Aishwarya and Bhandarkar) would sort it out, and in fact they have sorted it out... (But) if some person expresses his feelings about it he has the right to do it. And then others will also express their feelings on the issue and this way whatever is the truth, will come out,” Bachchan said in a matter-of-factly way.

After playing an over the top part and shaking a leg in "Bbuddah...Hoga Tera Baa", (BHTB) ravishing Raveena Tandon is looking forward to an invariably different part in "Alert" opposite Sanjay Dutt.

"Excited now about 'Alert', back to chiffon sarees!! The character I'm playing is very powerful...looking forward, different from BHTB," Raveena posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Hrithik-Katrina smooch too hot!

After toning down Hrithik-Katrina's sizzling chemistry for a song in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, director Zoya is acting prudish again. Buzz is that she is planning to cut the steamy kiss between the duo.

Apparently the kiss is three-minutes long and is an essential part of the script. Revealing the nature of the scene, Mid Day quotes an insider: "After a severe exchange of words, Hrithik's character Arjun leaves in a Buick. Katrina (Laila) chases him on her bike. Stopping his car, she forces him out and pinning him on the bonnet, kisses him. And it's a rather long scene, about three minutes long."

"That's why Zoya is finding it difficult to decide on how much of the kiss to retain and how much to leave out," the source says.

But Zoya is still in a dilemma, which emerged after seeing their chemistry in the Ek Junoon track.

Katrina"When they saw the first cut of the song shot during the Spanish Tomatina festival, Zoya felt that the chemistry between the two actors was too much for a group song," continues the source.

Kissing in Bollywood is now a done thing. Hrithik-Aishwarya kiss in Dhoom and Katrina-John's smooch in New York sparked much gossip. This can hardly be fresh food for thought.

Movie Review: Chalo Dilli

Chalo Dilli, a road movie, is about two exactly opposite people, with same destination, stuck together for their journey from Mumbai to Delhi. Though the film have a strong star cast, it proves to be an unsuccessful attempt to entertain the audience.


Chalo Dilli starts with the introduction of Mihika Banarjee (Lara Dutta), Senior Vice President of a top Financial Institution in Mumbai. Mihika, wife of Lieutenant Vikram Banarjee, is a sophisticated, career oriented, successful, perfectionist, strong willed young married woman.


Then enters Manu Gupta (Vinay Pathak), loud, obnoxious, rude, chatter box, crass guy who has a small saree shop at Karol Bagh. Manu is a kind of person Mihika has never had to interact with, in her entire life. Manu lives his life with the funda of "Kaun Si Badi Baat Ho Gayi" (means, whats the big deal).


The journey starts from the dream city, Mumbai. Due to uncertain reasons Mihika is forced to travel in budget flight to Delhi with Manu Gupta. The flight lands in Jaipur Airport because of technical faults. Here Mihika lands up in a situation where she has no choice but to travel with Manu for the rest of her journey to Delhi.


The freaking journey of Mihika and Manu, through air, road and train, tries to showcase the real India. The truck driver, the kid serving tea at the dhaba, the owner of the dhaba, the begali couple in train, the ticket checker, the thieves who stole scrap from railway, all join and leave the story without making an impression. Shashant forgets the fact that the female lead character, Mihika was unfamiliar with rural India but the audience are not.


On the acting prospects, only Vinay Pathak is, as always, worth watching. Lara Dutta, as Mihika, is perfect as a snotty banker but is less expressive. Akshay Kumar's role is small and still fails to make an impression. The songs do not play any role in the movie, yet an item song filmed on Yana Gupta, flaunting her curves in the re-mixed version of Laila Main Laila, was not so good but is the most noticeble part of the movie.


The story is decent and lite (extra lite), but the dailogues and background score fail to make audience laugh. Post intermission the movie seems a bit dragging. Cinematography and direction could have been more impressive.


All in all, if someone is really fond of watching Vinay Pathak's acting, then do watch Challo Dilli. A suggestion, the movie should have been named Mat (Do not) Challo Dilli, but stay at home.
